the art
My work explores the surreal landscapes that exist just beneath the surface of the everyday. It is an act of visual archaeology and reconstructive surgery. Using found imagery, vintage ephemera, and tactile mixed media materials – and playing with scale, color, texture, layering, and composition – my goal is to create a strange familiar.
I often juxtapose dualities: internal and external, whimsy and foreboding, fragmentation and synthesis, earthly and ethereal, mundane and extraordinary.
In my collages, you will visit places where anything might happen, where the body is a landscape, female figures fly through dreamscapes, a modern-day chimera goes shopping, and a single touch can set a whole world in motion. I invite you to find the beauty, humor, and unease in these modern mythologies.
